Director of PMO

The Director of the Project/Programme Management Office (PMO) is responsible for the overall project management function, providing leadership, coordination and management of the PMO processes and functions. This is a leadership position with an extremely fast paced delivery organization.

The Director of PMO leads the team that provides a central support and governance function to global project teams enabling and driving a world class project management organization and delivery to customers. This role is key to fostering collaboration across all functional teams and driving continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities

Support project managers by:

  • Helping and mobilizing the team (project start-up)
  • Reviewing project/program status reports
  • Facilitating change management of projects
  • Facilitating escalation of issues and risks
  • Overseeing development, governance, and implementation of processes, methodologies, tools, and products
  • Interfacing with Senior Managers and the COO to provide strategic and tactical advice on project/program planning and execution
  • Participating in the appointment of project managers

Facilitate approval for project management deliverables such as:

  • Project Charter
  • Project plan, scope, schedule and budget
  • Project checklists
  • Status reports

Define/Manage project management processes e.g.:

  • Risk management, Issue management, Change control, Quality management, Project evaluation
     

Ensure all standard project management processes are adhered to

Provide Senior management and all stakeholders with monthly reporting pack including governance, KPI analysis and proposed improvements

Work closely with Resourcing/Vendor Management, Quality and Contract Management
Continuous review and enhancement of overall delivery process and associated reporting

 

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of Programme and project management leading and managing teams
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Someone who has an understanding as to why projects are successful and can create this in others
  • Commercial outlook and strong change management experience
  •  Strong experience in practice and process design
  • Strong planner and have an eye for detail around forecasting and controlling outcomes
  • Ability to strongly influence others in a constructive/coaching style
  • Has worked in a highly matrixed environment
  • Extensive understanding of different project management methodologies, i.e. Waterfall & Agile
  • PMP or equivalent certification
  • Strong managerial and supervisory skills, demonstrating the ability to effectively lead others and those reporting into the PMO
  • Demonstrated success partnering with and influencing senior leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects on time and within budget
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively to people without technical backgrounds, both verbally and in writing
  • Advanced experience with MS Office suite: Windows, Word, Excel, MS projectand PowerPoint

Desirable Requirements

  • Working knowledge of project management information systems
